Infrared sauna or traditional sauna?
One acts on the surface, the other acts at the core of the body.
Iyashi Dôme, inventor of the Japanese sauna in 2004, explains why these two approaches are not comparable, either in how they work or in their effects.
Two opposing technologies
The ambient air is extremely hot and the body reacts by sweating on the surface, a natural protective reflex to cool and protect the skin.
The internal body temperature remains stable: perspiration comes mainly from the surface layer of the skin.
The Iyashi Dome infrared sauna, on the other hand, does not heat the air around the body.
It uses specific electromagnetic waves, long infrared rays (IRL), which can penetrate up to about 4 cm into the tissue.
This gentle, even radiation causes the body’s internal temperature to rise, inducing deep sweating from the body’s internal workings.
This ‘internal’ heat has been proven to eliminate toxins and heavy metals, as supported by studies conducted with Iyashi Dome for over 20 years.

Radically different effects
- External heat, very hot ambient air
- Surface sweating, skin protection
- Stable internal temperature
- Relaxing effect, but limited to the surface
- Heating technology
Iyashi Dome Infrared Sauna
- Long infrared radiation, controlled internal heat
- Deep perspiration, metabolic activation
- Natural increase in internal temperature
- Detox, slimming, anti-ageing and overall well-being effects
- Long infrared technology (infrared therapy)

Why do we refer to it as a ‘Japanese sauna’?
A journalist, discovering the Iyashi Dome device for the first time, named it thus for lack of a known reference.
Since then, this name has remained in common usage, but Iyashi Dome infrared therapy has nothing to do with a sauna in the traditional sense:
it is an infrared treatment technology, not a heated cabin.

A scientific approach to wellbeing
Studies have shown:
- a measurable elimination of toxins and heavy metals,
- stimulation of collagen and HSP70 proteins, which are involved in cell protection and anti-ageing effects,
- improved circulation and overall vitality,
- a feeling of deep well-being from the very first session.
The traditional sauna, on the other hand, works mainly through external heat to promote relaxation and muscle relaxation, but without a significant impact on the body’s internal temperature.

Two complementary but not comparable philosophies
Iyashi Dome infrared therapy, on the other hand, is a Japanese technological innovation, scientifically designed to act at the heart of the body.
Two different practices, two experiences, two philosophies.
En résumé :
- Two contrasting technologies: external heat (traditional) vs internal heat (long infrared).
- Iyashi Dome acts deeply on tissue, metabolism and cell regeneration.
- Proven elimination of toxins and heavy metals, anti-ageing effect and lasting well-being.
- The term ‘Japanese sauna’ stems from journalistic confusion, but Iyashi Dome infrared therapy is a technology in its own right.
